History of Osteopathy

History of Osteopathy

Osteopathy originated in the late 1800’s from the work and research of American physician, AT Still. Dr Still realized that optimal health is achieved only when the cells and tissues of the body are moving together in harmony. Placing an emphasis on the relationship between anatomical deviations and the state of health, Dr Still demonstrated his ability to restore health and well-being using his hands to treat the body.

Dr Still looked toward the body for answers and studied the inherent healing mechanisms within the body, developing the cornerstone of his philosophy.

Furthermore, he recognized that the body is made of up of inter-relating parts and focused his approach on the body as a whole integrated unit, incorporating not only the physical body but the relationship between mind, emotions, body and spirit.
